PASTA BOLOGNESE

1 lb ground beef
2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, diced
1 carrot, diced
4 oz smoked ham, chopped
1 cup water
3-4 canned whole tomatoes or 3 tbsp tomato puree
2 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
Dash pepper
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 cup white wine or chicken broth
1/4 cup half-and-half
10-12 oz spaghetti, cooked al dente
While pasta is cooking, brown meat in 1 tbsp oil. Transfer to a Dutch oven. In the same skillet, saute the ham and vegetables in the remaining oil. Transfer to Dutch oven with ground meat. Combine. Add water, tomatoes and seasonings. Cover. Cook about 20 minutes. Add wine and half-and-half cook a few minutes. Stir cooked and drained pasta into sauce and combine.
