STRAWBERRY CRUMBLE DESSERT

4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 1/4 cups flour
1 1/4 cups quick-cooking oats
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
2/3 cup cold butter
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 and lightly butter a 9-inch square baking pan; set aside. Drain sliced strawberries on paper towels to remove excess moisture, if particularly juicy.

In a large mixing bowl, blend together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture for the dessert topping. Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

In a clean bowl, combine the granulated sugar, cinnamon and fresh strawberries. Spoon the mixture over the top of the prepared crust in the baking pan. Sprinkle the reserved portion of the crumb mixture over the top of the berries. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm in bowls. Serves 5 or 6
