STRAWBERRIES WITH DOUBLE CREAM

3 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
3/4 cup milk, scalded
2 pints strawberries, cleaned and hulled
1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
1 cup whipped cream
Mix first 3 ingredients in a saucepan. Stir in cornstarch; add milk gradually. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until very thick, 2-3 minutes after boiling.
Remove custard to a bowl; cover and refrigerate until cold. Place berries in a bowl. Pour liqueur over berries. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Just before serving, stir 1/2 cup of whipped cream into custard. Fold in remaining 1/2 cup whipped cream. Spoon berries in individual serving dishes and top with cream mixture. Or, fold the berries into the cream and serve. Serves 6-8
