MEDITERRANEAN STEW

1 lb top round, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 lb Italian sausage
1 1/2 cups red wine
2 cups water
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tsp paprika
1/2 lb ham, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 medium onions, chopped
1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 (1 lb) can garbanzo beans, drained
1 small head cabbage, cut into wedges

In a large skillet, saute beef and sausage until brown. Drain meat and slice sausage; transfer to a large pot. Add wine, water, paste and seasonings. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until meat is tender. Add remaining ingredients, except cabbage. Cover and cook an additional 30 minutes. Add cabbage and cook just until the cabbage is tender, about 15-20 minutes. Serves 6-8
