APPLE FRENCH TOAST III

5 tbsp unsalted butter
6 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp dark corn syrup
1 tsp cinnamon
8-10 slices French bread, about 1 inch thick
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Syrup
1 cup applesauce
1 (10 oz) jar apple jelly
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
Prepare day before serving. In a large skillet, melt butter adding apple slices and stirring occasionally until slightly tender. Add brown sugar, syrup and cinnamon, stirring until brown sugar dissolves. Pour apple mixture into a 13x9 inch baking dish and spread to an even layer.
Arrange bread slices in one layer on top of apple mixture. In a bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla until well blended. Pour over bread slices. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate overnight.
Heat oven to 375. Remove plastic wrap from pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until bread is golden and apple mixture is set. Cool in pan 5 minutes and invert onto serving platter. Serve warm. Serves 6
Combine syrup ingredients in a medium saucepan; cook and stir until hot. Serve over French toast.
