APPLE STRUDEL I

Filling
3 Jonagold or golden delicious apples, peeled, cover and thinly sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped walnuts and golden raisins
2 tbsp sugar
Spiced crumb mixture
2 tbsp plain bread crumbs
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp melted butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp grated lemon peel
4 sheets phyllo dough, thawed if frozen
1/3 cup melted butter
Confectioners sugar
Whipped cream
Heat oven to 400. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Prepare filling in a large bowl. Toss together and set aside. Prepare crumb mixture in a small bowl and set aside.
To assemble the strudel: place two stacked sheets of phyllo on a tea towel on work surface. Brush all over with melted butter. Top with 2 more sheets of phyllo and brush with butter. Sprinkle crumb mixture over dough; spread filling along one short end.
Using a towel to lift, roll pastry jelly-roll fashion to enclose filling. Place seam-side down on baking sheet. Brush with melted butter. Cut some slits in the dough to allow steam to escape. Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool at least 15 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar and garnish with whipped cream.
