BUTTERED RUM-SPICED CIDER

6 cups apple cider
1/2 tsp whole cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
3 cinnamon sticks
6 tbsp butter, do not substitute for margarine
6 tbsp packed brown sugar
3/4 cup rum

Heat cider, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon sticks to boiling in 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat; reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes. Strain cider mixture to remove cloves and cinnamon sticks if desired. For serving, place 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp brown sugar and 2 tbsp rum in mug. Fill with hot cider. Serves 6

Special Touch Crush a couple of butterscotch candies and sprinkle on top of the cider for a garnish.
Variation: Serve a delicious nonalcoholic spiced cider by preparing as directed but omitting the butter, brown sugar and rum.
