ONION & GARLIC CROSTINI

1 tbsp butter
3 large (3 cups) onions, finely chopped
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh garlic
1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
1/4 lb (1/2 inch thick) sliced Swiss cheese, shredded
1/4 tsp salt
1 lb French bread baguette, cut into 32 (1/2 inch) slices
Melt butter in 10 inch skillet until sizzling; add 3 cups onions and garlic. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened and golden (8 to 10 minutes). Remove from heat; cool 15 minutes. Heat oven to 350.
Combine green onions, cheese and salt in medium bowl. Add cooled onion mixture; mix well. Place bread slices onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 4 minutes. Spread about 2 tsp onion mixture onto each bread slice. Continue baking for 6 minutes or until cheese is melted.
