SCALLOPED APPLES

6 Granny Smith Apples, peeled and sliced or 2 (20 oz) cans apple slices, drained
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ginger
1 tsp vanilla extract

Place apples in a nonstick saucepan with butter. Cook for several minutes. Add sugars, spices and vanilla and continue cooking until apples are tender, about 15 - 20 minutes over low-medium heat.

Variation: Preheat oven to 400. Place apples in a lightly greased baking dish and sprinkle with 1 tbsp lemon juice. In a bowl, combine remaining ingredients with 2 tbsp flour. Sprinkle mixture over apples and bake for 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream
