MARINATED CHUCK STEAKS III

4 boneless, 3/4 inch thick sirloin steaks
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 clove garlic, minced
Dash hot sauce
1 cup wood chips
Combine tomato sauce and next 6 ingredients in a saucepan; bring to a boil and reduce heat and simmer uncovered over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool. Pour cooled marinade in a dish and place steaks in marinade and coat thoroughly. Cover, refrigerate and marinate 6-8 hours or overnight turning occasionally.
Prepare grill for medium heat. Remove steaks from marinade; bring marinade to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Add chips to fire. If fire flares up, mist chips with water. When chips start to smoke, place steaks on cooking grid directly over fire. Grill over medium fir for 22-25 minutes or until desired doneness, turning once and brushing with cooked marinade. Serves 4
