ITALIAN BAKED ROUND STEAK

1 round steak, 1 inch thick
Seasoned flour with garlic powder, salt and pepper
Shortening
1 can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 small bay leaf
1/4 tsp thyme and sugar
1 large onion, sliced
1 green bell pepper, cut into long strips
Cut steak into serving pieces and trim off fat. Sprinkle with seasoned flour and pound the steak to incorporate the flour into the meat. Heat shortening in a skillet and brown meat on both sides. When browned, place in a casserole. Combine tomato paste, water and seasonings in a bowl; set aside. Top meat with vegetables and pour tomato mixture over all. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 1/2 – 2 hours or until meat is fork tender.
