Sauce - A&W Coney Island

5 lbs ground beef
2 small onions, finely chopped
64 oz tomato paste
64 oz canned tomato puree
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup cider vinegar
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp black pepper
1 Tbsp celery seed
3 Tbsp salt PLUS
1 tsp salt
1. Brown hamburger and onions in very large skillet; drain.
2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 3 1/2 hours.
*****Stir frequently, as it will tend to stick. This freezes well.
***Note: To get that authentic taste, use only Koegel franks and rehydrate dry minced onions in boiling water.
