Cookies - Chocolate Chip

3/4 cup crisco shortening
1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)


1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Beat shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in a large bowl with mixer on medium speed until well blended. Beat in egg. Stir flour, salt and baking soda in medium bowl. Gragually beat into creamed mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
2. Drop by rounded measuring btablespoonfuls 3" apart onto baking sheet.
3. Bake 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
