Cran-Apple Pie

1 c. all purpose flour
2/3 c. packed light brown sugar
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 c. unsalted butter, cold chopped into small pcs.

1 pie crust unbaked ( rolled to fit 9 1/2" deep dish pie pan)
3 lb apples - about 6 medium
1 c. fresh cranberries..(add 1/2 c more if you really like cranberries)
3/4 c. sugar (if you add more cranberries, add a little more sugar)
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/2 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
(add a little orange zest, if you desire)

Adjust oven rack to low level and preheat to 400.
Place pie crust in deep dish 9 1/2" pie plate and refrigerate.

In bowl, stir flour, brown sugar and nuts. Add butter and work butter into dry ingredients until moist and well blended. Refrigerate.

Peel and core apples and cut into 1/2 to 3/4 inch pcs. You should have about 8 cups.
Add cranberries, sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon and toss to combine. Pour apple mixture into pie crust and with fingertips press topping into small chunks and sprinkle over apples. Tent looselly with foil.

Bake on low rake 50 min. Remove foil and bake 25 to 35 min longer.
Cool 1 hr to serve warm or cool completely.
