Sweet and Sour Meat Balls - Hawaiian Style

Preheat the oven to 350f

Ingredients;

1 pound ground pork
1 can water chestnuts, minced
1/2 cup minced spring onion (green onion, scallions)
1 teaspoons powdered ginger or 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 cup bread crumbs

vegetable oil
cornstarch
Sauce (recipe below)

Mix the ingredients all together except oil and cornstarch and shape into 1 inch balls
Roll each ball cornstarch
Fry the balls in a little vegetable oil turning them over until they are light brown on all sides
Place the meatballs on a cookie sheet and loosely cover with foil
bake in the over at 350 for 15 minutes

Sauce:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup vinegar (try rice wine vinegar for mild taste)
2 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons dry sherry
3 tablespoon catsup
Four slices of pineapple, cut into chunks
1/2 green pepper, seeded and cut into chunks
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
red food coloring

Mix all the ingredients together except the pineapple juice and cornstarch

Add the cornstarch to the cold pineapple juice and stir until all cornstarch is mixed in with the juice.

Mix juice and cornstarch with the rest of the ingredients and add a few drops of red food coloring.

Cook of medium-low heat until sauce is thicken

Add meat balls to the sauce and simmer a couple minutes
