Sweet Sour Cole Slaw

1 head of cabbage, shredded
1 onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 carrot, chopped or grated
3/4 cup vinegar
3/4 cup salad oil
1 cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon celery seed
Pepper
Mix 1/2 sugar with cabbage, onion, pepper, and carrot and set aside.
Bring to a boil the vinegar, oil, 1/2 cup remaining sugar, salt, garlic powder, dry mustard, and celery seed.
Pour immediately over the cabbage mixture.
Refrigerate several hours before serving.
This will last for days in refrigerator.

Myrt says add a small turnip and some celery. Have not tried that.
