Hush Puppies

1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg beaten
1 onion finely chopped
3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk (use just what you need to make thick dough)
dash each of garlic powder,onion powder and worcestershire sauce.

Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
