Biscuits made with egg

Category: Breads and quick breads

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teas cream of tarter
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
2/3 cup milk *note

Directions
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat egg and milk*; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
2. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2-in. thickness. Cut with a 2-1/2-in. floured biscuit cutter. Place 1 in. apart on an greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Yield: 10 biscuits.

You may not need this much milk. To make drop biscuits add more of the milk and drop by large spoonful on greased pan. I use glass pan so I can see when the bottoms are nicely browned.

I have had these in Australia split open and topped with fresh strawberry jam and whipped cream. :)
