Baked Apple

Category: Fruits

Another one from Maw Maw... very easy dessert or sweet side dish.

Baked Apples

Apples: 1 per person

Margarine or butter: 1 or 2 pats per apple

Sugar: as needed (Sucralose works very well)

Cinnamon or Allspice: as desired

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Wash, half, and core the apples, 1 apple per person. Lay the apples on a buttered baking sheet. Onto each apple half, place a pat of margarine, then sprinkle generously with sugar, and lastly sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Bake at 400 degrees F for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and smell like apple pie. Serve warm or hot.

Note: If the apples are rolling around on the pan a lot, you can make a flat bottom by slicing off just a little from the outside edge and then they will lay flat. It will not even show from the top. Chop the part and add with chopped nuts and raisins to make a filling for apple halves for variation.

Note: Other fruits may be used, such as peaches, pears, apricots, etc.

Note: Microwave works well with this recipe. Start at 5 minutes on HIGH, then cook one minute at a time until done. Remember to stop when the fruit is al dante because it will continue cooking for about a minute after you stop microwaving. Likewise, let it set about a minute before serving.
