French Onion Dip, aka Beau Monde Dip

From the 1970's

1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup onion, minced
1 teaspoon dill weed
1 teaspoon Beau Monde (or French Seasoning)
1 - 2 Tablespoons sugar or sweetener, or as desired (optional)

Blend together well and chill overnight to blend flavors before serving. Serve chilled with chips. Personally, I prefer potato chips, either plain of sour cream and onion flavor.

Variations to make things a little more interesting:
(to clarify - each is its own change, NOT all together at once! But if you try it and it's good, let me know!)

2 sliced crisp bacon, crumbled
1/4 cup crumbled bleu cheese
1/2 finely chopped bell pepper
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 small jalapeno, minced (no seeds)
1 Tablespoon chopped green chilies
chopped chives
ground black pepper
1 Tablespoon basil and a Tablespoon grated parmigiana cheese
About a cup defrosted spinach, all juices squeezed out
Use cream cheese instead of Mayonnaise
1/2 cup chopped shrimp or other seafood
1 Tablespoon Ranch dressing seasoning mix
