deluxe tuna casserole
Category: Recipes
My recipe tuna casserole serves 3 very big or 5-6 moderate appetites. It also freezes very well.
1 twelve to sixteen ounce package of wide egg noodles cooked al dente and drained.
Turn on oven to 350.
1 can Condensed Cream of Celery Soup 10-12 oz
1 can Nacho Cheese Soup 10-12 oz
8 ounces canned mushrooms stems and pieces coarsely chopped.
1/4 pound shredded cheddar mix for tacos.
1 cup fresh frozen peas.
20 medium black olives sliced on width side into 4 pieces each.
6 to 8 slices of American cheese.
3 five oz cans of tuna in water, drained.
1 third cup chopped pimento, drained.
1 cup milk.
1. Blend the soups in a bowl adding the milk until evenly mixed.
2. Combine all ingredients into the bowl, except set aside the American and shredded chedder cheeses.
3. Grease a 13x9x2 baking dish with shortening or line it with foil and grease that. It's easy clean up with the foil.
4. Bake uncovered about 30 minutes, until the casserole is bubbling.
5. Turn on broiler, remove casserole from oven.
6. Stir in shredded cheese, flatten the mixture, and then put the American cheese slices on top of the casserole covering it completely.
7. Place casserole under a hot broiler until slices begin blackening, 30-45 seconds for electric, gas may take longer.
8. Remove immediately, and let stand 20 minutes before slicing.
This is a heavy dish so sides should be fairly light such as cucumbers in oil and vinegar with sliced green onion, a wilted spinach salad, sliced canned fruits such as peaches, and Garlic bread also works well.
