Peanut Butter Blossoms

1 3/4 c. flour
1 egg
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 dozen chocolate kisses

Sift flour, soda and salt. Cream shortening and sugars. Gradually add peanut butter. Add egg, milk, and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients and mix well. Shape by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Roll in extra sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and place a solid chocolate kiss on top of each cookie, pressing down so that the cookie cracks around the edge. Makes 3 dozen.
