Granny Dona's Gingerbread

I had to go mess with a perfectly good OLD
family cake from NEW AMSTERDAM!

1C.molasses
1egg
2Tbls.oil
2C.flour
1/2tsp.ea.cloves and allspice
3/4tsp.ea.cinnamon and ginger
1tsp.baking soda
1C.hot water
1 capful of anise flavoring

Mix molasses,egg,and oil in large bowl.
Mix flour,spices,and baking soda in small
bowl.Alternate mixing dry ingredients
and water into molasses begining and
ending with flour.Pour into 1 9"layer pan,
1 5x9"loaf pan,or 1doz.cupcake pan.Bake at
375 until cake tests done.This recipe can
be doubled and doubled again.It was a
VERY BIG CAKE!!!
