Slow Cooker Mediterranean Beef Stew

3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
4 medium carrots, peeled and sliced into 1 inch pieces
2 medium onions, cut into chunks
1 pound beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 8 ounce can tomato sauce or homemade
1 cup dry red wine
2 tablespoons wine vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup raisins
1 1 inch stick cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
1 bay leaf

In a 3 1/2 quart electric slow cooker, place potatoes, carrots, onions and stew meat.

In medium bowl, combine tomato sauce, wine, vinegar, brown sugar, salt, cumin, garlic powder and pepper. Stir in raisins, stick
cinnamon, cloves and bay leaf. Pour mixture over meat in cooker.

Cover and cook on high heat setting for 5 to 6 hours or on low for 10 to 12 hours or until tender. Remove stick cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves before serving.
Serves 6.
