Coconut Sugar Cookies

2 cups sugar
2 cups butter or margarine, softened
1 cup flaked coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Sugar for dipping

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat the 2 cups sugar, butter, coconut and vanilla in a large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt.

Shape dough into teaspoon size balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press bottom of glass into dough to grease, then dip glass into sugar and press on shaped dough again to flatten slightly.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
Yields 4 to 5 dozen.
