Important Note Before Starting:
·Do not use any type of metal spoon or bowl for mixing.
·Do Not refrigerate.
·When bag fills with air,let it out.
·It is normal for batter to rise,bubble or ferment.
DAY 1:
·Do nothing-(This is the day you receive the batter–go by the date on the bag).
Day 2-5:
·Mash the bag.
Day 6:
·Add (1 cup flour,1 cup sugar,1 cup milk) to bag and mash.
Day 7-9:
·Mash the bag.
Day 10:
·Follow the instructions below:
1.Pour the entire contents of bag into non-metal bowl.
2.Add:(1 1/2 cups flour,1 1/2 cups sugar,1 1/2 cups milk).
3.Measure out 4-separate batters of 1 cup each and put into 4-1 gallon heavy duty freezer bags.Keep one starter bag for yourself and give the remaining bags to 3 friends with a copy of this recipe.
It is best to put the date of the first day on the bag,as well as day 6 and day 10.
(Day one is the day you measured out the bags).
4.Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
5.To the remaining batter in the bowl,add:
3 eggs
1 cup oil -or- (1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup applesauce)
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large box vanilla instant pudding mix
6.In a new bowl mix (1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon)
7.Grease 2 loaf pans (or 1 bundt pan) and dust with half of the above mix.
8.Pour the batter evenly into the 2 pans and sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture over the top.
9.Bake for 1 hour-(Check at 50 minutes with bundt pan).Cool until the bread loosens from the pan evenly.Turn out onto cooling rack.Serve warm or cold.
If you keep starter for yourself you will be baking every 10 days. The bread makes a great gift.Only the Amish know how to make a ‘starter’,so if you give them all away you will have to wait until someone gives you one back.
