- 1 box (18.25 ounce size) chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 3 eggs, divided
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
- 1 package (1 pound size) powdered sugar
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9x13 baking dish. Combine the cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Stir in the nuts, if using. Spread the mixture in the prepared baking dish. In a mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, cream cheese, and remaining eggs. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer until combined. Spread over the chocolate layer in the baking dish. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake layer comes out clean. Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan before slicing. Store the brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
