Serves/Makes: 8
Ready in: 30-60 minutes
- 5 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup apple juice
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9x9-inch square or 10-inch round baking dish. Place half of the apple slices in the prepared baking dish. Combine the brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter in a bowl. Mix with a pastry blender or two forks until a crumbly mixture is formed. Sprinkle half of the mixture over the apples. Place the remaining apple slices over the oat mixture. Evenly sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the apples. Slowly drizzle the apple juice over the top. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake at 375 degrees F for 35 minutes or until the oat topping is crisp and golden brown. Serve hot, with ice cream or whipped cream if desired. Store any leftover apple crisp in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
