1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon powdered mustard
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons seasoned salt
1 Tablespoon dried chopped onion
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper*
1 egg
1 cup Cento® or similar dried, plain bread crumbs
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 pounds extra lean ground beef
In large bowl combine catsup, brown sugar and mustard. Reserve 4 tablespoons mixture for topping, adding ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce and 1/8 tsp ground chipotle pepper*. To remaining mixture, add Worcestershire sauce, salt, dried onion, onion and garlic powders, pepper and egg. Blend well. Add Cento® bread crumbs, cornstarch, and ground beef. Mix well. Shape into loaf and place in a small loaf pan. (Put two slices of white bread on the bottom to absorb grease…discarding before serving) Bake at 350 degrees F for 65 minutes.
Spread top with reserved ketchup mixture. Bake additional 15 minutes.
Makes about 6 servings.
