Swiss steak

Serves 6

1 1/2 lb 3/4 inch thick boneless round steak
1/4 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup water
3/4 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp chopped onion
1 (16 oz) can tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped carrots

Trim fat from steak; cut steak into 6 pieces. Render fat in skillet; discard, reserving drippings. Pound mixture of flour and salt into steak; reserve remaining flour mixture. Brown steak in drippings in skillet. Place in 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Blend reserved flour mixture into drippings in skillet. Stir in water gradually. Cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Add remaining ingredients. Pour over steak. Bake at 325 F for 1 hour. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour longer.
