Mississippi Mud cake

2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
4 whole eggs
1 1/2 cup plain flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
3 Tbsp chopped nuts
1/2 of a 10 oz pkg miniature marshmallows

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and beat by hand. Sift flour, cocoa and salt; add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Add vanilla and nuts; pour into greased and floured oblong pan. Bake 35 minutes at 300 F. Remove from oven and pour marshmallows over top. Return to oven 10 minutes or until golden brown at 350 F. Cool cake one hour and ice with favorite chocolate icing.
