Blackberry cake

2 cups fresh blackberries
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped pecans

Put blackberries through food mill to remove seeds; set aside. Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy, add eggs and vanilla; mixing well. Combine dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture alternately with blackberry pulp, beating well after each addition. Stir in raisins and pecans. Spoon batter into a greased 300 F for 1 hour and 25 minutes.
