Baked Ham

select good brand ham shoulder with least fat (8-10 lbs) wash well
1 cup white sugar
1 cup vinegar
10-12 whole cloves
3 minced garlic bulbs
2 bay leaves
brown sugar
mustard
pineapple slices
maraschino cherries

Place in preserving kettle fat side up. Cover with cold water. Add sugar, vinegar, cloves, bay leaves and cover. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for 2 hours, until tender when pierced with a fork. Remove from heat, leave covered in a cool place overnight. Remove skin from fat. Mix brown sugar and mustard together and spread over ham. Place under broiler until nicely browned. Decorate with sliced pineapple and maraschino cherries.
