Mothers mince

1 lb ground beef
2 chopped onions
2 Tbsp bacon fat
salt and pepper
2 cups cold water
3 Tbsp cornstarch
kitchen bouquet
mashed potatoes

In heavy pan saute onion in bacon fat. Add ground beef and brown. Season with salt and pepper. Add water, simmer 20 minutes. Thicken with cornstarch moistened with cold water. Add a few drops of kitchen bouquet and cook slowly 8 minutes. Serve this over mashed potatoes.
