Cheese Puffs

1 loaf firm unsliced bread
1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese
2 (3 oz) pkg cream cheese
1 cup butter or margarine
4 egg whites, beaten stiff
garlic salt, to taste
Trim crust from bread and cut into 1 inch cubes. Melt cheese and butter in top of double boiler. Remove from heat and fold in egg whites and garlic salt. Dip bread cubes in cheese mixture until well coated, place on buttered foil on cookie sheet and freeze overnight.
Bake 12-15 minutes at 400 F or until golden brown.
NOTE: for luncheon slices, leave bread in whole slices about 1 inch thick and proceed as above.
