Scalloped Cabbage and Ham

Serves 4
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 cup cooked ham, diced
4 Tbsp butter, divided
2 Tbsp all purpose flour
1 cup milk
3/4 cup American cheese, cubed
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp dry bread crumbs
Steam cabbage and onion in a small amount of water until crisp tender. Add ham and place in a greased 11x7" baking pan; set aside. Melt 2 Tbsp butter in a skillet over low heat; stir in flour and milk until smooth. Add cheese and salt; stir until cheese is melted. Pour over cabbage mixture; sprinkle with bread crumbs and dot with remaining butter. Bake at 300 F for 30 minutes.
