Serves 6
1/3 cup sugar
3 Tbsp baking soda
1/2 cup boiling water
2/3 cup Milnot
2/3 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tbsp baking cocoa
2/3 cup chopped nuts
3 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp melted shortening
3 Tbsp water
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
Mix 1/3 cup sugar and 3 Tbsp cocoa in small bowl. Stir in boiling water. Add milnot; mix well. Set aside. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 cup sugar and 3 Tbsp cocoa into bowl. Add nuts. Add remaining ingredients all at once; mix quickly.
Spoon into greased 9x9-inch baking pan. Pour reserved cocoa mixture evenly over top; do not mix. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes or until top is firm. Serve warm, spooning sauce over servings.
