Old fashioned Indian pudding

1/2 cup molasses
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cup milk
1/3 cup cornmeal
Butter (the size of a walnut) (1 1/2 to 2 Tbsp)

Combine molasses, egg, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl; mix well. Scald milk in saucepan, heating just to the boiling point; do not boil. Stir in cornmeal. Add milk mixture to molasses mixture; mix well.
Spoon batter into 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Place butter on top; do not stir. Bake at 325 F for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve pudding warm with ice cream or whipped topping.
