Crisp sugar cookies

Makes 3 dozen

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 cup flour, sifted
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt

Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla in mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs. Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well. Chill for 30 minutes.
Drop by tsp fuls onto greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with bottom of glass dipped in additional sugar. Bake at 375 F for 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
