Meringue Drops

Makes 2 dozen
Ready in 1 hour 10 minutes

4 egg whites
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup granulated sugar
Red decorating sugar
Green decorating sugar

Heat oven to 250 F. Butter and flour 2 baking sheets.
Beat egg whites in a medium bowl until frothy. Add salt and cream of tartar; beat until soft peaks form. Continue beating, gradually adding granulated sugar, until meringue is stiff and glossy.
Spoon meringue into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe out stars, 1-inch apart, onto prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with decorating sugar.
Bake in 250 F oven, 55-60 minutes or until firm but not browned. Remove cookies to wire racks to cool.
