HUNGARIAN BEEF & BARLEY STEW

You can add beans to this or leave them out. My family happens to like beans so I put them in. Pinto, kidney or navy beans will do.
Serves 4-6
2 pounds of boneless beef short ribs or stew beef
1(16 oz) can of beans, kidney, pinto or your favorite
1 (14 oz) can of beef broth
1 cup of apple juice
3/4 cup of pearled barley
1 large onion coarsely chopped
2 stalks of celery coarsely chopped
2 cups of carrots coarsely chopped
1 Tablespoon sweet Hungarian paprika
1 teaspoon salt
2 cloves of garlic pressed
Combine all the in the ingredients into a 5 qt crock pot insert.
Stir well.
Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours
HIGH for 4-6 hours or until meat is tender.
