Most Delicious Turkey EVER!
Category: Recipes
1 Whole turkey
1 Whole Onion
1 Large Potato
2 Large carrots
3 Stalks of celery
Poultry seasoning
Celery Salt
Salt
Pepper
Oregano
Garlic Powder
1/2 cup of water
2 cups chicken, or Turkey broth, or stock
4 cups of butter (not melted)
Olive Oil
(I've replaced the oinion with a large red apple or two before which makes the bird a little sweeter)
****Directions****
COMPLETELY DEFROST THE TURKEY!!
Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees
Remove the Giblets and neck from inside the cavity.
Place 1 celery stalk, cut into halves, and one whole peeled onion inside the cavity of the turkey.
Turkey in a deep baking pot with cover.
Slowly pour Olive iol over the bird, and rub the oil so all skin is evenly covered with the oil.
With a sharp knife cut 1 inch slits in the skin at the following points:
1 slit on both sides of the breast, near the neck
1 slit on both sides of the birds belly
1 slit on each leg
1 slit on each wing (optional, but recommended)
With a small spoon fill slits with butter. Press firmly into the skin between the meat and the skin (you can season the butter if you choose)
Continue to fill the bird with butter in the remaining slits (Don't worry this part is messy)
Use all the butter.
Add herbs and seasoning to evenly cover the bird, do not rub the herbs and seasonings into the bird.
Cut the remaining vegetables into chunks and equally place them around the bird (If you run out of room, you can put them into the cavity of the bird)
Add the water, and broth or stock to the pot (Do not pour over the bird as this will remove the seasonings)
Cover the bird, and place into the oven for 1 hour.
After the first hour flip turkey breast side down, and cover.
Return to oven.
Every half hour baste in its own juices, add water, or butter (preferrably butter) as needed.
After 2-3 hours of cooking flip the bird breast side up (you may need help) and return to the oven covered for 1 hour.
After the hour is up, flip the bird back breast side down and finish cooking.
ENJOY!
***The turkey will fall apart when it is done this is normal. This recipe isn't meant for appearance but the taste will far outweigh the looks***
