PASTRY - SHORTCAKE - STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE

Makes 6 servings.
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. cocoa powder
1 T. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 c. milk
2 pints strawberries, sliced
1/4 c. granulated sugar
sweetened whipped cream
chocolate syrup
Preheat oven to 400F; Spray two 9 inch round cake pans with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, 1/2 cup sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add milk; mix until just moistened
Spread evenly into pans and bake at 400F for 15 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes; transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
In a medium bowl, combine strawberries and 1/4 cup sugar; let stand 10 minutes.
Place 1 cake lay on serving plate.; spread with half of the strawberry mixture and half of the whipped cream.
Top with second shortcake layer, remaining strawberry mixture and whipped topping.
To serve, drizzle with chocolate topping.
