BONBONS - ORANGE ALMOND STUFFED DATES

Makes 24 servings.

24 dried pitted dates
24 inch-long pieces candies orange peel
24 whole blanched almonds
2 tsp. shortening
1 c. semisweet chocolate chips

Stuff each date with a piece of orange peel and almond; set aside.
In a microwave-safe bowl, heat shortening and remaining chocolate chips on high for 1 minute or until chips are melted; stir until smooth; drizzle over cookies.
Dip each stuffed date into melted chocolate. Cool until firm.
