Pot Roast In Sour Cream

2 pounds chuck or rump roast cut into 1&1/2 inch slices.
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup shortening
5 medium onions, sliced
1/2 pint sour cream
4 tablespoons water or milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Covered Dutch oven or covered skillet
Roll slices of meat in flour that has been seasoned with salt and pepper. Brown meat on both sides in hot shortening. Cover with onions. Pour sour cream over all. Cover and simmer for 1 & 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Then remove to a platter. Mix flour left over from dredging the meat with water or milk. Add liquid to skillet and cook until thickened. Pour over meat and serve.
