Serves/Makes: 6
Ready in: 1-2 hrs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 6 egg yolks, beaten
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup whipping cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Combine the sugar and egg yolks in a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. While whisking, add the milk, whipping cream, and vanilla. Mix until combined. Pour the custard mixture into 6-ounce custard cups or ramekins and sprinkle each with nutmeg. Set the custard cups in a 13x9 baking dish. Carefully pour hot water into the baking dish to fill it 1-inch deep, taking care not to splash any water into the custard. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake at 325 degrees F for 50-60 minutes or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the middle of one comes out clean. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and remove the custard cups from the hot water. Dry off the cups before serving. Serve warm.
