1 medium-sized cabbage, shredded
16 saltine crackers
White sauce:
1/4 pound butter
4 Tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
2 cups milk
In a saucepan over low heat, melt butter and stir in flour. Stir in milk a little at a time and continue cooking over low heat until thickened. Add salt, pepper, and celery seed.
Fill a lightly buttered baking dish with alternating layers of crumbled crackers and shredded cabbage, starting with a layer of cabbage and ending with crackers. Should have about 3 layers of each. Pour white sauce over the cabbage and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
