Dr. Pepper Short Ribs

- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 5 pounds short ribs
- 1 1/2 cup Dr Pepper (not diet)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Heat the shortening in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the short ribs and cook on all sides, turning frequently, until well browned. Remove the short ribs from the skillet and place in a large baking dish. In a saucepan, combine the Dr Pepper, ketchup, vinegar, salt, pepper, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Pour the sauce evenly over the ribs. Place the ribs in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 2 hours or until tender. Turn the ribs once or twice during the cooking time. Remove the ribs from the oven and serve hot.
