- 1/2 pound hot Italian sausage, either cut in thin slices or removed from casings
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1/8 cup chopped celery
- 1/8 cup chopped green bell peppers
- 1 cup hot salsa (or less spicy if you prefer)
- 1 can (16 ounce size) salt free tomato juice
- 1 can (6 ounce size) salt free tomato paste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder, optional, heat level as desired
Brown sausage, ground beef, and onion in deep skillet. During last 3 minutes of browning, add mushrooms, celery, and green peppers. Continue cooking; then drain. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into crock pot. Cover; cook on high 2 to 3 hours.
