8 oz macaroni, cooked al dente
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (1.5 oz) pkg dry sloppy Joe seasoning mix
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 cup chili sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups shredded cheese
While pasta is cooking, saute hamburger and onion in a skillet until meat is browned. Reduce heat and add next 4 ingredients, mixing well. Simmer, uncovered, 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in pasta. Season with salt and pepper.
Spoon half of mixture into a 1 1/2 quart casserole. Top with half the cheese; then top with remaining pasta mixture. Book, loosely covered with foil at 350 for 20-25 minutes; uncover and add remaining cheese. Bake an additional 6-8 minutes or until cheese has melted or casserole is bubbly.
NOTE: May be prepared in advance, frozen and reheated, loosely covered with foil at 350 for 30 minutes.
